• Family Background: 1572 In their last will and testiment, Lope de Argüelles and his wife María de Estrada named their ancestors. Named as parents for María were Deigo de Argüelles, "el Sordo," a native of Consejo de Siero and doña Leonor de Herrera, a native of Ciudad Rodrigo, España. Diego de Argüelles was the legitimate son of Rodrigo González de Argüelles, second Señor de las Casa de Argüelles, an ancient house of this Consejo, and of do Sancha de Naba y Estrada, his wife. The said Ruy González de Argülles, first Señor y Mayorazgo de la Casa de Argülles, and ancient house of this Consejo, and doña Marquesa de Auirós, his wife, legitimate sister of Ybán Bernardo de Quirós, lord and founder of the mayorazgo of the Casa de Quirós. The said doña Sancha de Naba y Estrada was the legitimate daughter of Pedro Naba, "el Bueno," Señor de la Casa Naba.
On 9 Oct 1577 when a document was drawn up concerning the use ofthe inheritance of his grandson, the younger Lope de Argüelles to support his education as a priest of the Orden de Santo Domingo. This document was prepared and signed by Lope's maternal grandfather, Diego de Argüelles.
