• Background Information. 252 Don Francisco de Espínola was a smelter of precious metals who joined the colonists in 1693 with his wife, Doña Marí de las Heras, and three daughters: Catalina, thirteen, María Magadalena, nine, and Juana Antonia, seven. The first two girls were born in México City, while Juana Antonia was born in Zacatecuas.
Francisco and María did not reach New México. They may have died on the journey from Zacatecas, but their daughters continued alone with the colonists to Santa Fé. In late 1694, Antonio Jorge married Catalina. Antonio died within a year, and she married a widower, Francisco Lucero de Godoy in 1695.
Maria Magdalena became the wife of Salvador Anaya Almazán, and Juana Antonio married Ramón García Jurado in 1697.
