According the the chronicle of Lanthony, Humphrey IV was earl of Hereford and constable of England. But he died before his father, probably in 1182 in France while serving Henry the younger, so he never had the titles.

Humphrey was married to Margaret of Scotland (who died 1201), daughter of Henry, earl of Huntington, and sister of King William the Lion of Scotland, and widow of Conan le Petit, earl of Brittany and Richmond (who died 1171).

After Humphrey's death, his widow confirmed the gift of a marketplace to the priory of Bradenstoke that he had specified in his will.

Henry de Bohun, hereditary Constable of England, was son and heir of Humphrey de Bohun, who was also hereditary Constable of England. His mother was Margaret, widow of Conan (le Petit), the Duc de Bretagne and Earl of Richmond. Margaret was the daughter of Prince Henry of Scotland, Earl of Huntingdon, by Ada, daughter of William de Warenne, Earl of Surrey. He was therefore the nephew to William, the Lion, King of Scotland. Henry was the grandson of another Humphrey de Bohun by Margaret, eldest daughter and eventually coheir of Miles (of Gloucester), Earl of Hereford and Constable of England. Having inherited through his aforesaid grandmother the principal estates of the former earls, he was created, 28 April 1200, by charter dated at Porchester, Earl of Hereford. After the coronation he was sent (1200) with the Bishop of Durham and the Earl of Norfolk to conduct his Uncle William, King of Scotland, to do homage at Lincoln.

A manuscript which narrates the descents of the founders of Lanthony Abbey names "dominus Humfridus quartus de Bohun, comes Herefordiæ et constabularius Angliæ" as son of "dominum Hunfredum de Bohun tertium" and his wife "Margeriam" [Dugdale Monasticon VI, Lanthony Abbey, Gloucestershire, II, Fundatorum progenies, p. 134]. He succeeded his father as Lord of Trowbridge, Wiltshire. The 1164/65 Pipe Roll records "Hunfr de Bohu" owing ".ccc. m p Releuio terre patris sui" in Wiltshire, which implies that Humphrey senior had recently died [Pipe Roll 11 Hen II (1164/65), p. 57]. A manuscript in Aske's collections names "Milo…Erle of Herforde, Lord of Bricone and of all the Forest of Done, and also Constable of England…Ladi Margaret the furst begotton daughter of the said Milo…married to Humfre of Bohun the third…Humfre of Bohum the iiiith sonne and heire of the foresaid Margaret…" among those buried at Lanthony Priory [Collectanea Topographica et Genealogica, Vol. I (1834), XX, p. 169].

Humphrey married Margaret de Huntingdon Princess of Scotland, daughter of Henry mac Crínán Earl of Huntington and Ada de Warenne, in 1175 in England ^141,160.^,530 (Margaret de Huntingdon Princess of Scotland was born after 1144 in Scotland and died in 1201 in England ⁵³⁰.)
