• Background Information. 141 Reynold de Broase was the third son of William de Broase and Bertha de Pîtres. He was the younger brother of William de Braose who married Maud de St. Valery, and heir to his older brother Giles de Broase.
Reynold had sezin of his father's land 26 May 1216, but he gave Bramber to his nephew John, son and heir to the first brother William. Reynold married Grecia de Briwere, daughter and coheir to her father William de Briwere by Beatrice de Vaux. Reynold's second wife was Gwladus Du, daughter of Llewelyn ap Iorwerth, Prince of North Wales by his 2nd wife, Joan, the natural daughter of King John. ~Cokayne's Complete Peerage, 2nd Edition, (Abergavenny), Vol. I, p. 22
• Background Information. 737 Reginald de Braose was the heir of his brother Giles de Braose, bishop of Hereford. Giles had sided with the barons against King John. Giles held the ancestral lands, but in King John's last year of his reign, gave them to Reginald, the younger brother because he was angry that Giles side with the barons.
Reginald de Broase had his grant confirmed by King Henry III, and he had livery of the castle and honor of Totness, with the honor of Barnstaple, having had previously possession of other estates. He married Gracia, daughter of William de Bruere, and died in 1221.
