Richard, son of William de Balderstone, succeeded his father shortly before 1256, when he obtained an acknowledgement of his mesne lord, Thomas de Osbalderston. Richard acquired lands call crapot from his Uncle John, son of Ailsi. By his wife Agnes, Richard had issue of William, his heir & successor, a son named Simon, called Simon de Birley, and other children.
