During the testimony of 85 year-old Juan Candelaria recorded in 1775 during the prenuptial investigation of Vicente Durán y Chaves and María Concepcion Aragón [AASF, Roll 63, Diligencias Matrimoniales, fr. 464], Juan declared that he knew Josefa de Hinojos (daughter of María Hinojos & Bartolomé de Salazar, an Alcalde Mayor of the Zuñi and Moqui jurisdiction; & Granddaughter of a Zuni woman & Miguel de Hinojos) wife of Diego Montoya, and continued to state that Josefa de Hinojos was a "Collota desendiente del Pueblo de Suñi, hermano de un yndio llamada ventura," ("Coyota, descendant of the Pueblo of Zuñi, sister of an Indian named Ventura"). Josefa de Hinojos was the great-great Grandmother of José Vicente Durán y Chavez.

Zuni married Miguel de Hinojos, son of Hernando de Hinojos and Beatriz Pérez de Bustillo, about 1635 in Zuni Pueblo, Nuevo Méjico, Nueva España. (Miguel de Hinojos was born in 1610 in Santa Fé, Santa Fé, Nuevo Méjico, Nueva España.)
