Bartolomé Romero de Pedraza was an adjuntant when he escaped from Santa Fe with Governor Otermín and his people in 1680. He was referred to in the following year as the Adjutant, not married at the time, a native of New Mexico, and forty years old. He was slender, of good stature, having a thick heavy beard and thick wavy hair. A pre-Revolt house at La Cañada was mentioned in 1696 as that of Bartolomé Romero, very possibly this man's, since Romero de Pedraza folk returned to this general area; or it could have belonged to any of the many Bartolomés of the century. It appears, from post-Reconquest data, that his wife was Luisa Varela, and that they had a son, Matías, who married Angela Vallejo, and a daughter, Juana, who became the wife of Juan de Ribera.

Bartolomé Romero de Pedraza was the son of Captain Matías Romero and Isabel de Pedraza, both mentioned as deceased when he was residing as Adjutant at San Pedro de Alcantara in 1681, when he married Doña Lucía Varela Jaramillo (DM, 1681, no. 8). Besides Matías and Juana, mentioned in ONMF, of whose parentage now there is no doubt, they had two other daughters: María, who married Francisco García Perea in 1707; and Antonia, who became the wife of Sebastián Varela in 1711 (DM, 1707, no. 8; 1711, no. 14). Bartolomé died in Santa Fe shortly after the Reconquest, "three years ago," when his widow married Antonio Felix Valencia on May 17, 1696 (DM, 1696, no. 29). Chavez, Fray Angelico.
