Antonio Ortíz Baca, was a Capitán by 1628 and was twenty-six years old, he said, married and living in Santa Fé. He was the main ring-leader in the anti-Rosas faction which caused this Governor's death, January 25, 1642. He was also the leader of the people who defied the Governor by barricading themselves with the friars at Santa Domingo pueblo. His turbulent career ended on July 21 1643 when he was beheaded with others in Santa Fé.

His wife was Yumar Pérez de Bustillo, forty years old in 1631. She, too, had come to New Mexico as a child with her parents. Of their three known daughers, Gertrudis married Antonio Jorge, Ana was the wife of Franciso López de Aragon, and Gregoria married Antonio de Alvizu. What later Bacas were their sons, if any, cannot as yet be ascertained."
