• Background Information. 1557 Andrew Came to Massachusetts in 1633. Freeman May 14, 1634, lived in Watertown Massachusetts. He was appointed one of the commissioners "to govern the people of Connecticut." One of five judges in the first court held in Connecticut, April 1636. Numerous famous descendants, including the Hulls, naturalist John Burroughs, Aaron Burr, Henry Ward Beecher, Harriet Beecher Stowe.
He was as one of the Assistants for Connecticut 1636 and 1637. Deputy for Wethersfield, Connecticut 1637-1640; for Stamford to New Haven, 1644, and Assistant 1646; for Fairfield to Connecticut 1648-1658.

In that most ancient town-then known as Watertown, the first church of Christ in Connecticut was organized. On 29 May 1635, the church in Watertown in Massachusetts Bay granted "a dismission" to six of its members, "with the intent that the six men should form anew in a church covenant of the River of Connecticut." The names of the six members were: Andrew Ward, John Sherman, John Stickland, Robert Coe, Robert Reynolds and Jonas Weede."
• Background Information. 590 Andrew Ward was on of the most important and influential men in Fairfield. He had served in Connecticut's first government as well as holding many offices. He died in 1665, leaving nine children. they were Edmund, William, Mary, Andrew, Samuel, Abigail, Ann, John and Sarah. His will, dated 3 Jun 1659 was "drawn by his own hand," and he declared of himself to be "strong, merry, and well both in body and mind."
• Background Information. 598 From Martin Genealogy, p. 14:
Andrew Ward, proprietor of Wthersfield, was the son of Richard Ward of Suffolk*, England. He married Esther Sherman, who came to the Americas with her husband prior to 1633.
Andrew Ward, along with one other, were the first settlers of Wethersfield. The first court of this colony was estabished in Mar 1635, and it consisted of Andrew Ward and seven other. They were commissioned by the Genral Court of Massachusetts "to make and execute laws, and the ogvern the people of Connecticut for one year."
Andrew died in 1665, and his wife followed him sometime the same year. His will was dated 3 Jun 1658, and probated at Fairfield. He bequeathed forty pounds to his wife Ester. • Background Information. 660 *George K. Ward in his work, "Andrew Ward and his descendants, 1597-1910 . . . says that Andrew was not the son of Richard Ward, but the grandson of Richard Ward.
