Margaret Southworth
- Marriage: Sir Robert Urswick Knight 1530a
General Notes:
The History of the County Palatine and Duchy of Lancaster, Vol. 2, p. 423, "Pedigree of Radclyffe or Radcliffe, of Radcliffe Tower,"1530a has Elena, daughter of Richard de Radclyffe, High Sheriff of Lancashire and his wife Isabella, daughter and heir of Pleasington, and sister to Thomas Radclyffe, marring, as her third husband, Robert Urswick.
I believe that Elena married the older Robert Urswick. All the records of Robert Urswick seem to confuse father with his son Sir Robert Urswick. Elena may be married to either father or son. The same is true with Margaret Southworth, but I've found more references for Sir Robert, son of Robert, being married to Margaret Southworth.
Noted events in her life were:
• Background Information: 746 Sir Robert Urswick obtained the Manor of Upper Rawcliffe or Uprawcliffe, by marriage with Helen, daughter of Sir William Southworth (1373), who had inherited from the Couplands, and it remained with the Urswicks until two generations later, when it passed by marriage to the Kirbys of Kirkby. Rawcliffe, as it is now called, is situated on the north side of the river Wyre, in the same towhsip as the village of St. Michaels.
Records of the Family Urswyk, Urswick, or Urwick, p. 21-24
• Background Information: 1591 An inquiry was instituted in 1322, during the reign of Edward II, concerning the possession in land and mills of John de Rigmayden in Upper Rawcliffe, Wyresdale and Garstang. In the succeeding few years, Joan, the daughter and heiress of John de Rigmayden and John de Coupland held Upper Rawcliffe between them. Joan de Rigmayden, the heir of John, probably married William Southworth, as he is described as lord of Upper Rawcliffe a short time later. Ellen, the sole child and heiress of William Southworth, because the wife of Robert Urswick.
