Sir Robert de Legh, knight & lord of Addelyngton, son and heir, born at Roterlehay, and baptized at Aldelyn, March 36 Edward III, was the son of Robert de Legh and his wife Mitailda de Ardene. Sir Robert was Sheriff of Cheshire, 17, 29 & 22 Richard II. He served in Scotland in 1385 & in Ireland in 1394. He had a liscense for an oratory in Adelynton in 1398. He was a justice in Eyre, a retainer of Richard II, constable of the castle of Oswaldestre and deputy steward & master of the forests of Chester, 1401. His Ob. was on the feast of St. Laurence, 1408, and his Inq. p.m. was 9 Henry IV.

Sir Robert's first wife was Isabel, daughter and heir of Thomas de Belgreve by Joan his wife, the sister and heir of John de Pulford. Their children were: Robert de Legh, son and heir; another Robert de Legh; James de Legh; Reynold, alias Reginold de Legh; James de Legh; Joan, wife of Ralph de Davenport; and Ellen, wife of David, son and heir of Sir Hugh de Calvylegh.

Robert's second wife was named Margery of unknown parentage. Margery married a second time to Richard de Clitheroe after Robert died. They had a daughter named Margery who married in 1413 to Thomas, son and heir of Hugh de Davenport of Henbury.
