• Background Information. 197 Engenulf Seigneur de l'Aigle was a companion of William the Conqueror at the battle of Hastings. He was one of the unfortunate to be slain in battle at the Battle of Hastings.
• Web Reference: Charles Cawley's Medieval Lands, Seigneurs de l'Aigle. Orderic Vitalis records that "Engenulfus et Richuereda uxor eius" donated the deceased´s horse to Ouche after "Rogerius primogenitus Engenulfi de Aquila filius" was killed, dated to abt 1059/61 [Orderic Vitalis (Prévost), Vol. II, Liber III, V, p. 74]. The Chronique de Normandie, based on le Roman de Rou, names "Engenous de l´Aigle" among those who took part in the conquest of England in 1066 [Extrait de la Chronique de Normandie, RHGF XIII, p. 237]. Orderic Vitalis records that "Engenulfus Aquilensis oppidanus" was killed in the battle of Hastings [Orderic Vitalis (Prévost), Vol. II, Liber III, XIV, p. 150].
Engenulf married Richereda. (Richereda was buried in Saint-Sulpice-sur-Risle.)
