• Background Information. 151 Sir William Scot of Calverley appears to be the only son of Sir Roger Scot. He was born circa 1210. In the Calverley Charters, it is mentioned that he settled lands in Calverley on his daughter Joan and her husband, Richard, son of Richard Ingram of Nottingham. A second document refers to the marriage of Williams daughter Alice with Simon de Otley, clerk.
Sir William's wife is stated to be Mabel within the document found among the Calverley Charter. In the old pedigree, Sir William's wife is said to be Mabel, daughter of Sir Nicholas Stapleton. This is doubtful since Sir Nicholas was part of the Stapleton-on-Tees family which had little connection with West Riding. If Mabel were a Stapleton, she would come from the Thorpe-Stapleton family and possibly be a sister or daughter of Sir Robert Stapleton whose name appears in the documents of the Calverley Charter. ~The Calverley Charters, Presented to the British Museum, by Sir Walter Calverley Trevelyan, Baronet, Vol. I, Notes on the Pedigree
