• Background Information. 818 Sir Thomas Boteler, Knight, founded the Chantry in the Church of Warrington. Sir Thomas succeeded his eldest brother, Sir William, who died unmarred in 12 Edward IV or 1473. Sir Thomas was a minor of the age of ten and a ward of the King at that time. He was devoted to a military life and distinguished himself by his bravery at Flodden. In 2 Richard III, 1484, he married Margaret, daughter of Sir John Delves of Doddington, knight of Cheshire. Margaret and Sir Thomas had eight daughter and one son. He died 14 Henry VIII, 1522, at the age of sixty years and was buried in this Chapel that was built by his ancestors. he is under a fine table tomb. ~A History of The Chantries within The County Palatine of Lancaster, Vol I, p. 58

Elizabeth married George Booth of Dunham, who died 25 Oct 1531. Isabel, second wife of Randle Brereton of Malpas Anne, 1st married to George Atherton of Atherton, who died in 1518, married 2nd Lawrence Starkey of Stretton. Cicely, married Henry Kyghley Margery, married to Sir Thomas Southworth of Samlesbury, knight, after he had been divorced from his first wife, Ann Stanley. They attained a dispensation, since they were related in the fourth degree, was obtained 10 Jan 1518.
