After Richard's death, 6 August 1027, Adela secondly married Baldwin V, Count of Flanders. Richard's two children, by an unknown mistress or mistresses were Alix who married Ranulf vicomte de Beyeux and Nicolas, Mon at Fecamp.

Guillaume of Jumièges names "Richardum...atque Robertum et Willelmum" as the three sons of "dux Richardus" and his wife "Goiffredum Britannorum comitem... sororem... Iudith" [Willelmi Gemmetencis Historiæ (Du Chesne, 1619), Liber V, XIII, p. 255]. Guillaume of Jumièges records that Duke Richard III, after suppressing the rebellion of his brother Robert, returned to Rouen where he died poisoned in 1028[Willelmi Gemmetencis Historiæ (Du Chesne, 1619), Liber VI, II, p. 258]. Orderic Vitalis also alleges that he was poisoned [Orderic Vitalis, Vol. III, Book V, p. 85]. The Obituaire de Notre-Dame de Paris records the death "VIII Id Aug" of "Ricardus dux Normannie" [Obituaires de Sens Tome I.1, Obituaire de Notre-Dame de Paris, p. 229]
