• Background Information. 719 William married Hildeburga, daughter of a chevalier named Arnulph, who is spoken of as a very noble man. By her he had a son named Arnulph and Mabel, their daughter who married Roger Montgomerie. William Talvas was a man with a violent temper. On his wife's protesting against his enormities and comdeming them openly, her caused her to be strangled. His treatment of William Giroie brought him the fierce vengeance of Giroie's brothers, who ravaged his territories. His subjects, joined by his only son, joined themself to his enemies and expelled him from his lands around the year 1048. He was homeless and wandered around, but no one was willing to help him. To his daughter he left a heritage of cruelty, ambition and pride.
