Alan III was the grandson of Richard I Duke of Normandy. The son of Ermengarde and Alan IV was Conan III, who married Maud, the natural daughter of Henry I, king of England. ¹⁶⁰

"The Chronicon Briocensi names "Hoellus Dux filiusque Alani Cagnart et Judith Comitissæ" when recording his marriage [Ex Chronico Briocensi, RHGF, Tome XII, p. 565]. The Chronicon Briocensi records the marriage of "Hasevisiam sororem…Conani Ducis" and "Hoellus Dux" [Ex Chronico Briocensi, RHGF, Tome XII, p. 565]. The Chronicon Universum in the cartulary of Sainte-Croix de Quimperlé records the death in 1084 of "Hoel comes" [Quimperlé Sainte-Trinité, Chronicon Universum, p. 105]."

Hoël married Hawise duchesse de Bretagne, daughter of Alain "le Regru" duc de Bretagne and Bertha de Blois, in 1066-1087.¹⁶⁰ (Hawise duchesse de Bretagne was born about 1037 in Bretagne and died in 1072 in Bretagne ¹⁶⁰.)
