• Background Information. 141 Saer de Quency or Quincy, was a tenant of Anselm de Chokes at Long Buckby, Northamptonshire sometime around 1124-1129. Saer's wife was Maud, the wodow of Robert Fitz Richard "de Clare," and the daughter of Simón de St. Liz, Earl of Huntingdon and Northampton and his wife Maud, the first daughter and coheir of Waltheof, Earl of Northumberland, Huntingdon and Northampton. Saher was alive on 12 Jan 1145/46, and dired sometime around 1156/58. His wife was alive in 1158, and died before 1163.

• Name. 141,885 The Quincy family name may have come from Cuinchy, Pas-de-Calais which lies between Artois and Flanders. There is no evidence leading to the origin of the first known Quincy, Saher de Quincy. He is first heard of in England in the 1120s. His unique first name can lead to numerous possibilities. There is some similarity to Portuguese or Galician "Soeiro," which is referred to nobility in Portugal in the late eleventh and early twelfth centuries. • Background Information: From Wikipedia. The recorded Saer de Quincy was lord of the manor of Long Buckby in Northamptonshire in the earlier twelfth century, and second husband of Matilda of St. Liz, stepdaughter of King David I of Scotland. Their married produced at least two known sons, Saer the second and Robert who became the Earl of Winchester.177
Saher married Maud de St. Liz Lady Bradham, daughter of Simon de St. Liz Earl of Huntingdon and Northumbia and Maud Countess of Huntingdon and Northumbria.277 (Maud de St. Liz Lady Bradham was born about 1094 and died about 1140.)
