Elena, wife of Nicholas de Croft, was the daughter and heir of John le Boteler of Merton. She had been contracted to marry Edward Lathom, the younger brother of the last Thomas de Lathom and Isabella, who carried the great inheritance to the Stanleys since Thomas died without a male heir.
