• Background Information. 141 Geoffrey de Neville acquired feudal importance by his marriage, in or before 1267, with Margaret, daughter and heir of John de Lungvillers. He was appointed, 25 Oct. 1270, chief of the justices in eyre for that turn of the Forests, Notts, York, Cumberland and Northumberland, and continued to act as Chief Justice of the Forest beyond Trent until his death. In Oct 1275, he was the chief assessor of the 15th in Cumberland and Lancaster, and was summoned 1277, 1282 and 1283 to the assembly at Shrewsbury.
Geoffrey de Neville married Margaret de Lungvillers, and died shortly before 16 Mar 1285. His widow, who was born at Farnley, Leeds, had writ for livery of Hornby Castle, 3 Apr 1285, she undertaking not to marry without license. She was summoned to perform military service in Gascony in person, 1294, and against the Scots, June 1300. Margaret died about Feb 1318/9.
