Thomas Bloggett, his wife Susan and his two children emigrated to New England in 1635. They arrived and settled at Cambridge, Massachusetts. In Jun 1637, their daughter Susanna was born.

Thomas Bloggett was allotted land in 1635 and became a Freeman in 1636. He was a member of the Thomas Shephard company which founded what is now the Shepherd memorial Church. He must have been a man of some means for it is recorded that in 1639, he owned a house and land. In 1641, he made his will, which was a follows:

"Cambridge in America
I, Thomas Bloggett, being at this time in my right mind, give to wife Susan, my whole estate, after my decease, as well within doors as without. She to bring up my children in such learning and other things as shall be meet for them and pay eldest son Daniel, fifteen pounds when he is one and twenty, or in one month after her decease. To my second son, Samuel, fifteen pounds as above. To Susanna fifteen pounds. Should they have a father at law who does not treat them well, my will is that the Deacons and our Brother Fflessington and our Brother Winchship they, or either of them should have the power to see into it and reform it by ones means or another. Written this 10th day of 5th month 1641."
Witnesses were Thomas Harris and John Mens.

Thomas died in 1642. His widow, Susan, married in 1644, James Thompson and moved to Woburn, Massachusetts. Here her sons, Daniel and Samuel, grew to manhood, and in December 1655, Samuel married Ruth Eggleden (Iggleden), of Boston.

• Background Information.
Thomas Blodgett (otherwise written Bloget, Blogget, Bloggitt, Bloged, and Blokwod), a glover, came to New England in 1635, and had a grant of land 6 Mar 1636/7. He and his wife Susan had children Daniel, Samuel and Susan. Thomas died 7 Aug 1639 according to the record, but his will is dated 10 Aug 1641. His wife, Susan, then married in Woburn, James Tompson, 15 Feb 1644/5 and died 10 Feb 1646/7.

• Background Information. ¹⁰⁸⁷
The black plague struck London, Suffolk and other areas with devastating regularity. The years 1593, 1599, 1603 and 1608 were all years when the plague cause many to die. In 1631, Thomas's uncle John died. In 1630 and 1632 Thomas's sons John and Nathaniel. It is quite possible that one of Thomas's reasons for emigrating was his hope of escaping this swift and merciless killer.
