• Background Information. 645 Two brothers, Thomas and Francis Kendall, both born in England, emigrated to Massachusetts Bay Colony prior to 1640. Francis settled in Woburn, then called Charlestown, and Thomas located at Lynn, where he was married to Rebecca about 1639. He moved to Reading, Massachusetts , and he was made a deacon of the church there. He was recognized as a man of high religious character. he died at that place, 22 Jul 1681. He was also a very influencial citizen of the town of Reading.
Decan Thomas Kendall had eight daughters and no sons that lived to an adult age. The daughters of Thomas Kendall, in order to persever their maiden name among their posterity, named their sons Kendall. Rebecca Kendal died 17 Jul 1703 at age 85. Her epitath says "Here lyeth the mother of ten who had 175 grand and great-grand-children."

Thomas married Rebecca Payne, daughter of Anthony Payne and Alice Potter. (Rebecca Payne was born about 1618 in Reading, Middlesex, Massachusetts,152 died on 17 Jul 1703 in Reading, Middlesex, Massachusetts 152,570 and was buried in 1703 in Ancient Burial Ground in South Reading, Massachusetts 152,570.)
