Guillaume de Nevers was the son of Renaud comte de Nevers and his wife Hedwige de France, daughter of Robert the Pious, King of France. Guillaume de Nevers married Ermengarde countess of Tonnerre, daughter of Renaud comte de Tonnerre and his wife Helvis. "Milo comes Tornodorensis castri" donated property to the monastery of Saint-Michel, for the soul of "filii mei Othonis" buried in the monastery and "uxore mea Herviz…filio nostro Arduyno ac filia Ermengarda", by charter dated Jul 1036[Yonne, Tome I, XXCI, p. 156]. Her marriage is referred to in the Gesta pontificum Autissiodorensium [Gesta pontificum Autissiodorensium, Duru, L.-M. (ed.) (1850) Bibliothčque historique de l'Yonne, I, (Auxerre), pp. 309-509, 398-402, cited in Bouchard (1987), p. 371].
