Gruffud ap Llywelyn, king of Gwynedd, Powys and after 1055, king of all Wales, was the son of Llywelyn ap Seisyll and Anghard, daughter of Maredudd ab Owain, king of Deheubarth. Gruffydd married Ældgyth, daughter of Ælfgar of Northumberland and they had two sons, Maredudd and Idwal one daughter Nest who married Osbern Fitz Richard.

Gruffudd ap Llywelyn ap Seisyllt, succeeded his father as King of Gwynedd and Powys in 1021. He defeated the England and Danes several time, and obtained the sovereignty of all Wales in 1032. He invaded England in 1050, and defeated the English on a plain near Hereford. In 1057, he again defeated the English and their allies many times. Gruffydd was treacherously slain by his own subjects in 1064, at the instigation of King Harold of England, and Caradawg, lord of Iestyn, son of Owain ab Hywel Dda.

Gruffydd ap Llywelyn was the son of Llywelyn ap Seisyll and Angharad, daughter of Maredudd. Gruffydd was more of a soldier than and statesmen, and he seized the reins of power with use of violence. He succeeded in uniting Wales, but only lived for eight years after having done son.

Gruffydd ap Llywelyn made and alliance with Earl Ælfgar, who daughter he married. This alliance made Harold, King of England, very uncomfortable and he was determined to destroy Welsh power. According to Land of My Fathers: 2000 Years of Welsh History, King Harold bribed men close of Gruffydd to murder their prince.

Gruffydd married Ældgyth Princess of Northumberland, daughter of Ælfgar III of Mercia and Ælfgifu of Wessex Queen Of England 1013.,1097 (Ældgyth Princess of Northumberland was born about 1034 in Mercia, England and died after 1086.)
