Philip de Belemis, the son of Water, succceeded his uncle, Bishop Richard de Belmeis, to his estate in Tong. Philip likely died in the year 1150, and was succeeded by his eldest son, by his wife Matilda, daughter of William Meschin, who was also named Philip.

From Origins of Some Anglo-Norman Families, p. 13, from Beumais-sur-Dive, Richard de Belmeis is the founder of this family, and a follower of Roger de Montgomery. According to Orderic, he had been the sheriff of Shropshire. In 1108, he became bishop of London. He founded an important Shropshire family descending from his brother Walter. Beaumais-sur-Dive appears to have been a fief of Grandmesnil.

Philip married Maud le Meschines, daughter of William le Meschin= and Cecily de Rumilly. (Maud le Meschines died before 19 Aug 1214 in Wigmore, Herefordshire, England ⁴⁸⁹ and was buried before 19 Aug 1214 in Wigmore Castle, Herefordshire, England ⁴⁸⁹.)
