• Background Information. 160 Walter de Gaunt, son of Gilbert de Gaunt, married Maud, daughter of Stephen, Count of Brittany, Walter held the Barony of Folkingham, Lincholnshire, was a commander at the Battle of the Standard. He was the founder of Bridling Priory in Yorkshire. His daughter Adeliza de Gaunt married Roger de Mowbray, son of Nele d'Aubigny and his second wife Gundred de Gournay. His dauther Agnes de Gaunt married William de Mohun, son of Sir William de Mohun. He also had a son, Robert de Gaunt.

• Background Information. 141 Walter, father of Gilbert de Gant, was the son of Gilbert de Gant, by Alice, sometimes called Emma, daughter of Hugh, comté de Montfort, and eventually heir of her brother. He founded the priory of Bridlington about 1114 and was a member of Henry I's Council in 1121/22 and again in 1131. He was at Stephen's Easter court in 1136, and was at the Battle of the Standar in 1138. He died in 1139, after having taken the havit at Bardney. He bequeathed to Bridlington a reliquary sent to him from Jerusalem by Baldwin, his sister's husband. He had two sons beside Gilbert. His other sons were Robert, father of a Gilbert; Baldwin and Geoffrey.
