• Background Information. 934 Geoffrey Talebot, born about 1080, with his knisman, Gilbert de Lacy, was a zealous partisan of Empress Matilda, daughter of King Henry I, in her claim to the throne of England. In 1139, Geoffrey Talbot was commander of an army of Matilda in the county of Hereford, and he was defeated by the forces of King Stephen [Hume, History of England, Vol. I, pp 267-268; Smollett, History of England, Vol. II, p. 41, both 2nd Editions]
Geoffrey was married to a woman named Agnes and had at least two sons, Geoffrey, and William.
