• Background Information. 934 Sir Thomas Talbot, knight, was born about 1307, and he succeeded to the Bashall estates after the death of his older brother in abt 1328/29. On 3 Feb 1329, he was deeded lands in Bashall by John de Brockholes [Hist. Whalley, v. ii., p. 497; Harl. Ms. 804, fol. 17]. In 1330, he was a knight, and in 1338, he was in service of the King on the Scottish borders [Rot. Scotić, 12 Edw. III, m. 19]. On 18 Feb 1347/8 commission of oyer and terminer was given to Sir Thomas Talbot, Knight, and other to investigate damage done in the Queen's chase of Slaidburn and Bowland [Pat. Rolls, 21 Edw. III, pt. I, m. 31d.]. Thomas married Elizabeth, daughter and coheir of James Beler, or Bellair, of Leicestershire. Elizabeth survived him, being a widow in 40 Edward III (1366). [Hist. Whalley, v. i, p. 500]. Their children were:
