Gabriel de Lira gave his age as 40 in 1694 when, widowed of Petrona Ramírez, he married Teresa Varela. His parents were Francisco de Lira and Ana María.

Teresa Varela was dead by 1698 when he asked to marry María de la Vega, widow of Juan de Zamora. At this time Gabriel said he was 50, a native of Querétaro, and a soldier of Santa Fe.

Whether this third marriage took place is not known, or else he had a fourth wife, for in 1717 at El Paso an Agustín Márquez married Francisca de Piña, daughter of José de Piña and Juana de San Antonio, and widow of Gabriel de Lira.

Gabriel de Lira, native of Queretaro and soldier of the Presidio, widowed of Petronila Ramírez who had come (to New Mexico) with him, son of Francisco de Lira and Ana María, both deceased, and Teresa Varela, native of the el Río Abajo and widow of Cristóbal Márquez, daughter of Antono Baca and Melchora de los Reyes.

Witnesses: José Miguel (35) of Zacatecas, Lucas Flores (25), native of Parras, Cristóbal Trujillo (30), native of New Mexico, Diego Trujillo (22), native of New Mexico. Pair married 18 Apr 1694 with witnesses Francisco Santiago and Catarin Durán.

Gabriel de Lira, crillo of the city of Queretaro and presidio soldier, widowed of Teresa Varela, buried here, and María de la Vega (26), native of la Cañada in New Mexico, widow of Juan de Zamora, killed in revolt of 1696 bwtween the pueblos of Cochití and Santo Domingo, and presumed dead because the corpse of his campanion, Laureano (Gómez), had been found.

Witnesses: José Antonio Ramos (20). Ygnacio Losano (20), Juan Morones de Casares (30), all soldiers.
