Richard Erneys

In a grant made to Robert by his father in-law, William de Molyneux of Sefton, Robert is called the son of Richard Erneys.

Ormerod states that very little is known about the Erneys family. This Richard Erneys occurs in the civic list of Chester. Richard had served as Sheriff of Chester in 1280. His son was Robert Erneys, husband of Joan Molyneux*. Robert's son and successor was another Richard Erneys, and he was also a Sheriff of Chester, this time in 1325 and 1326. Richard, son of Robert, son of the first Richard, also served as Mayor in 1327 and 1328. Richard's son as well as the he grandson of Robert Erneys and Jane Molyneux* was William, who was father of a Roger Erneys.

*After reading parts Ormerod's History of Chester ⁷¹³, I've notice there are times whenOrmerod will use different names when referring to the same person. I suspect that while he is writing, he is looking through documents that give that person different name. He mentioned in his History of Chester ⁷¹³, that he found over seventy different spellings for the same name. He is apt to use all these difference spellings and names in his own writing. Nonetheless, his work is amazing.
