• Background Information: Felix Martínez was enlisted by don Diego de Vargas to join him as a soldier during his 1693 expedition to resettle New Mexico. He was made captain of the Santa Fé presidio in 1704. Felix was married to a woman named María Catarina Esparza.
According to a note to Colonel Pedro de Rivera y Villalón from the presidial officers in Santa Fé Salvador Martínez was the son of Felix Martínez [The Career of Félix Martínez de Torrelaguna: Soldier, Presidio Commander, and Governor of New Mexico 1693-1726 - by Ted J. Warner, p. 177, footnote 22 & 23 Santa Fé Presidial Officers to Rivera, Santa Fé, 16 Jul 1726, AGN, Civil 2249-4].
This gives New Mexico's families another Martínez progenitor. Most of New Mexico's early Martínez family comes from the Martín Serrano family with the name changing to Matines as in a group of Martíns or the plural of Martín.
