• Background Information: 886 Matthew Cooley was the son of Eliakim II and Griswold Beckwith. He was born on 27 Jan or Feb 1711/2, Springfield, Massachusetts. He resided in Lyme and Saybrook, Conneticut, depite his death not appearing in the Connecticut Vital Records. Eliakim married, 22 Aug 1734 in Lyme to Jemima Rogers. Jemima Rogers, was born 23 Nov 1714, in New London, Connecticut and died on 14 Feb 1794. She was the daughter of John II Rogers (son of John and grandson of James) and Bathsheba Smith daughter of Richard.
Their twelve children were all born in Lyme:
