Antonio had been an apprentice of Dr. Agustín Zabala, and he became good friends with the Agustín and his wife, Catalina de Sasoeta. Itis through this couple that Antonio met his wife, Lucía Sasoeta who was Catalina's cousin. Lucía's parents were Juanes de Sasoeta (died when Lucía was nine and her brother Nicolás was only two months old) and Josefa Barcaiztegui. Lucía and Antonio married on 8 Feb 1691.
