• Background Information: Beyond Origins "Nicolás Durán, "el moso" (the younger), was living in the Villa de Santa Fe in February 1659. His wife was María, an Apache Indian born circa 1623 who was a criada of Capitán Hernán Martín Serrano. Nicolás and María lived on their rancho along the banks of the Santa Fe River, which was referred to as "el Rancho Ribado."
