• Background Information. 1204 Eythrope Manor corresponds to the three fees held by William Darches in 1196 [Pipe R. 8 Ric. I, m. 15 d] and in the early 13th century. [Rot. de Oblatis et Fin. (Rec. Com.), 150; Red Bk. of Exch. (Rolls Ser.), 145] He was living in 1218 [Feet of F. Bucks. Trin. 2 Hen. III, no. 2] and had been succeeded in Eythrope before 1235 by Jordan Darches, [Testa de Nevill (Rec. Com.), 258] probably his son. Richard Darches, who was holding in 1284, [Feud. Aids, i, 84; See also Chan. Inq. p.m. 28 Edw. I, no. 44; Feud. Aids, i, 93, 118; Chan. Inq. p.m. Edw. II, file 88, no. 10; Abbrev. Rot. Orig. (Rec. Com.), i, 290] died about 1308 [Chan. Inq. p.m. Edw. II, file 9, no. 7.] and was followed by his son Simon. [Ibid.; Feud. Aids, i, 134, 114] He died in 1316, when the custody of his son Richard was granted to John de la Haye. [Chan. Inq. p.m. Edw. II, file 53, no. 25] Richard Darches attained his majority in 1333 [Ibid. Edw. III, file 37, no. 1] and was holding in 1346, [Feud. Aids, i, 118] but Simon Darches had succeeded before 1378. [Chan. Inq. p.m. 2 Ric. II, no. 57] He died between 1382 [Ibid. 5 Ric. II, no. 62] and 1396 [Ibid. 19 Ric. II, no. 52] and was followed by another Simon Darches, [Cal. Pat. 1401-5, p. 358; Chan. Inq. p.m. 3 Hen. V, no. 96] who was living in 1425. [Chan. Inq. p.m. 3 Hen. VI, no. 8]
Eythrope Manor descended through the marriage of Joan, daughter and heir of Richard, presumably grandson of the last-mentioned Richard Darches, with Sir John Dynham to their son John, Lord Dynham, who died in 1501 (see Dynham's Manor, Oving). [Feet of F. case 293, file 73, no. 446]
