• Background Information. 1171 Sir William Carminowe, second son, of Bocommoc, brother and heir of Sir Ralph Carminowe. Sir William was aged 30 at the time of his brother's death (3 Oct 1386), and was Sheriff of Devon 14 Rich. He was named in the Inq. taken on the death of his sons John and Nicholas. Sir William died, 8 Feb 1407, and his Inq. p.m. took place on Hen. IV, No. 16.
Sir William Carminowe married Margaret, daughter of. . .Kelly. The Inq. p.m. 9 Hen. V, No. 99 recites that Nicholas Kelly, Parson of Laddock, &c., gave the manor of Ashwater to William Carminowe and Margaret his wife. Margaret died 26 Oct. 1420. Her Inq.p.m. took place on 8 Hen. V, No. 57.
