• Web Reference: From Wikipedia. Ordoño II of León was the second son of King Alfonso III the Great, kind of Asturias, and Queen Jimena. He ruled Galicia and succeed his brother, upon García's death, to León. Ordoño married, as his first wife, Elvira Menédez, daughter of count Hermenegildo Gutiérrez. Their children were Sancho I and Alfonso IV.

"The Crónica de Sampiro records that "Adefonsus filius Domini Ordonii" married "Pampilona…uxorem ex illorum prosapia generis…Xemena" by whom he had "filios...Garseanum, Ordonium, Froilanum et Gundisalvum qui archidiaconus ecclesie Ovetensis fuit" [Chronicon Sampiri, Asturicensis Episcopi, 1, España Sagrada, Tomo XIV, p. 453]. Ordoño married Elvira Menéndez, daughter of conde Hermenegildo Gutiérrez andErmesinda Gatóniz. This is cofirmed by a charter dated 21 Feb 897 which states "that "Gondesindus prolis Erus et Adosinda" accepted as his wife Elvira´s sister "Enderquina conmento Pala filia dux Menemdus Gutierizi et Ermesinda iermana de domna Geluira regina que fuit mulier de Ordonius rex mater Ranemirus principe" [Portugaliæ Monumenta Historica, Diplomata et Chartæ, Vol. I (Lisbon, 1868), Fasc. I, Pars I, XII, p. 7]."
