• Background Information. 185 The Curli family was seated at Budbrook in Warwickshire, where Robert de Curli held an estate by grant from Geoffrey de Clinton. Robert de Curli's son, John, according to Dugdale, is first mentioned as having his land seized in 6 John for adhering to the King's enemies. All of the Curli land was seized by 33 Henry III. John's brother, William de Curli, obtained the family from the King for a C marks fine and a palfrey. According to Dugdale, "William became eminently employ'd in his time." His seal of arms bear a label with four points standing in the place of a Bend sinister. This William had a son, another William, who left two daughters. His daughter Alice, became the wife of Peter de Neville, and his daughter Joane, married in 52 Henry III, Robert Hastang. ~ The Battle Abbey Roll, Vol. I, pp. 275-276
