• Background Information. 814 Robert de Hastang was not summoned to parliament at Lincoln in 29 Edward I, yet he was one of those who subscribed their seals to the letter written to the Pope, then being designated as "Robertus Hastang Dominus de Desiree." He was likely in Scotland at this time as the constable of roxburgh castle. He is styled a baron in the 5 Edward summons to parliament at Westminster.
He was the son of the first Robert de Hastang and his wife Joane, daughter and coheir of William de Curli, and the grandfather of Thomas de Hastang, and great grandfather to John de Hastang whose daughter married Sir Ralph de Stafford.
