John Darby, fisherman, resided at Marbledhead, Massacusetts. Nothing is know of his origin, birth or marriage. The earliest mention that has been relating to him occurs in the Coffin's Copy of Essex county, Massacusetts Court Records, Vol. II, p. 300. He is named there as a creditor of John Clay, a Marblehead fisherman who had been slain by the Indians. The amound of the debt was £3; the date of entry in Coffin is 8 Nov 1677.

All we know about his wife was that her name was Alice. The inventory of John Darby's estate, bearing the dat of 17 Jun 1690, is found in Coffin's Copy of Essex County Court Records, Vol. III, p. 419.

John Darby's widow, Alice, married John Woodbury, of Beverly, son of John and Elizabeth Woodbury and the grandson of John and Agnes Woodbury, emigrants.

John Darby, 15 Mar 1683, bought of the selectmen of Marblehead, a lot of land in that town for 20s. The lost was sold, 26 Oct 1713, to Ebenezer Ingall, of Marblehead, cooper, for £15 [Essex Co. Deeds, V. 27, p. 77]
