Ensign James Kidder is the progenitor of practically people named Kidder in the U.S. James is believed to have been born in East Grinstead, Suxxes, England sometimes arournd 1626. He died at Billerica on 16 Apr 1676. He married Anna Moore at Cambridge in late 1949 or early 1650. Anna Moore was born in England about 1630 and died at Billerica in 1967. Anna was the daughter of Elder Francis and Katherine Moore. After James Kidder died, she married for a second time to William Underwood at Chelmsford on 17 Mar 1684/85.

James Kidder and Anna Moore left Cambridge to live in Billerica about 1662, soon after the establishment of the Church in Billerica. All but their youngest four children, were born in Cambridge. Their son Enoch was among the four born in Billerica.
