~The Early History of the Stricklands, p. 16, "The Connection of the Families of Strickland, Washington and Carleton" Pedigree, showd Adam de Vaux, alias Adam de Castle Carrock, to be the son of Eustace de Vaux, and father of Walter fitz Adam, alias de Strickland, younger son, d. 1236-39, married to Christian de Leteham, heiress of Great Strickland, Westmoreland. The next in line is Robrt de Strickland married to Geatrice de Cotesford, whose second husband was Robert de Wethered. 888

• Background Information. 910 Adam of Castle Carrock, is likely the son of Eustace de Vaux. Adam was a common name used in the Vaux family. Adam de Castle Carrock, was the father of Walter de Castle Carrock, who was in turn father of Richard Strickland. The Strickland arms closely resemble the arms borne by the Daces of Gilsland, and the Vauxes' heir-general.
