• Background Information: 252 María Luz Ortiz was an illegitimate daughter of Rosa Bustamante, by a certain José Baca, who had been born on 16 Feb 1755, less than two months after her mother's marriage to José Antonio Ortiz. Jose Antonio Ortiz latter knew all about it and generously gave her his name. María de la Luz married Miguel de Olona, April 21 Apr 1773, and her origin was forgotten until 1814, when Pedro Bautista Pino used the hidden fact to break the Bustamante will.

In his will signed 2 Mar 1772, José Francisco Baca names his wife, Juana Catalina Beytia and their four children: María Josefa, Antonio José, José Manuel and Juan Cristobal. José Francisco also names his natural son, José Antonio (son of Rosa Bustamante), and says he wants José Antonio to get an equal share of his property along with his legitimate children. The land he has in el Pueblo Quemado, which was likely given to him by his father Cristóbal Baca. Further proof that Cristóbal was José Francisco's father is the he mentions Nicolasla Baca as his sister. José Francisco also mentions that his father-in-law, Paulin Beytia and his uncle, Miguel de Alirí.
