Charles Crawley's Medieval Lands Otto I was the son of Heinrich I "de Vogelsteller" King of Germany and his second wife, Mathilde. Otto married, as his first wife, Eadgyth of Wessex, daughter of Edward "the elder" King of Wessex and his second wife, Ælfleda. They had two children:

Liudolf, Duke of Swabia who married Ida and had two children Mathilde and Otto, Duke of Bavaria.
Liutgard who married Konrad, "der Rote" Graf in Franconia, Duke of Lotharinga, son of Werner.

Otto married, as his second wife, Adelais of Burgundy, widow of Lothar, King of Italy and daughter of Rudolf II, King of Burgundy and his wife Bertha of Swabia. They had five children, including Otto II, King of Germany and Holy roman Emperor. With his second wife, Otto I may have had a daughter. Richlind, who married Konrad I Duke of Swabia.

"Widukind names (in order) "Oddonem, Heinricum, Brunonem" as sons of King Heinrich & his second wife [Widukindi Res Gestæ Saxonicæ I.31, MGH SS III, p. 430]. The Book of Hyde names "Edgitham et Elgimam" as fifth and sixth of the six daughters of King Edward by his first wife "Elfelmi comitis filia Elfleda", specifying that they were both sent to "Henrico Alemanorum imperatori" and that the former married "filio sui Othoni" [Liber Monasterii de Hyda XIV.4, p. 112]. Luitprand names "Adelegidam" daughter of Rudolf and Berta, when recording her marriage to "regi Lothario" [Liudprandi Antapodosis IV.12, MGH SS III, p. 318]. The necrology of Fulda records the death "973 Non Mai" of "Otto imp" [Annales Necrologici Fuldenses, MGH SS XIII, p. 123]. Thietmar records his death at Memleben on 7 May in the thirty-eighth year after his consecration and his burial at Magdeburg [Thietmar 2.43, p. 123]. The necrology of Merseburg records the death "7 May" of "Otto maior magnus imperator" [Althoff, G. (ed.) (1983) Die Totenbücher von Merseburg, Magdeburg und Lüneburg (Hannover), Merseburg].


Otto married Adélaide de Bourgogne, daughter of Rudolf II de Bourgogne Re di Italy and Berta of Swabia, in Oct 951. (Adélaide de Bourgogne was born in 931-932 in Bourgogne,160 died on 16 Dec 999 in Seltz, Alsace 160 and was buried in Kloster Selz.)


Otto next married Ædgyth of England, daughter of Edward I "The Elder" of Wessex King of England and Ælflaeda Queen of England.160 (Ædgyth of England was born about 910, died on 26 Jan 946 in Germany 470 and was buried in St Maurice Cathedral, Magdeburg, Germany 470.)
