• Web Reference: Charles Cawley's Medieval Lands, Dukes of Bavaria . 1019 Welf IV, son of Alberto Azzo II, Conte di Luni and his first wife Kunigunde von Altdorf, was installed in 1070 as Welf I, Duke of Bavaria by Heinrich IV, King of Germany. Welf married as his first wife, Ethelinde von Northeim, daughter of Otto I Graf von Northeim, Duke of Bavaria and his wife Richenza of Swabia. They were divorced in 1070. Welf's next wife was Judith de Flandre, widow of Tostig Godwinson, Earl of Northumbria, daughter of Baldouin IV, Count of Flanders and his second wife Aléonor de Normandie. Welf and Judith were the parents of Welf II Duke of Bavaria and Heinrich IX "der Schwarze" Duke of Bavaria.
Welf married Judith of Flanders, daughter of Baudouin IV "Belle Barbe" comte de Flandres and Aliénor Comtesse de Normandy. (Judith of Flanders died in Mar 1094.)
