Maria Troiane's parentage is confirmed by Nikephoros Bryennios who records that "uxor Andronici" was "genus a Samuele…Bulgarorum rege, e cuius filio Troianne nata ipsa erat", adding that "materna vero ei prosapia referebatur ad Contostephanos, Aballantes et Phocadas" [Nikephoros Bryennios Liber III, 6, p. 106].
Maria married Andronikos Doukas, son of Ioannes Doukas Emperor of Byzantine Empire and Eirene Pegonitissa. (Andronikos Doukas was born in 1045 in Byzantine and died about 14 Oct 1077.)
