Don Alfonso de León was the son of Alfonso IX, King of León and his second wife, doña Berenguela de Castilla. His first wife was Mafalda Gonzáles de Lara, Señor de Molin y Mesa, daughter of Gonzalo Pérez de Lara and his wife Sancha Gómez de Trastámara. As his second wife, he married Teresa González de Lara daughter of Conde Gonzalo Núñ de Lara and his wife María Díaz de Haro. His third wife was Mayor Alfonso de Meneses, widow of Gonzalo Gil de Villalobos, and daughter of Alonso Téllez de Meneses and María Yánez de Lima.
