Paio Soares da Maia was one of the sons of Soeiro Mendes da Maia o Bom and Gontrodo Moniz. Paio married, around 1120, Châmoa Gomes, the daughter of the important Galician magnate Gomes Nunes de Pombeiro. Children from this marriage were:

• Pedro Pais da Maia (1147-1186) o Alferes, married to Elvira Viegas de Ribadouro, daughter of Egas Moniz, Aio and Teresa Afonso
• Paio Pais Zapata (dead in 1163), without descendants, buried in the Monastery of Santo Tirso.
• Ximena Pais da Maia, married Gonçalo Pais Curvo, son of Paio Curvo de Toronho.

Don Payo Curvo de Galicia was the father of Don Gonçalo Páez de Toroño who married Doña Ximena Páez and the were the parents of Elvira Gonçalez. Doña Ximena Páez was the daughter of don Payo Soarez Zapata and his wife doña Chamoa Gómez.

Payo married Chamoa Gómez, daughter of Gómez Núñez de Pombeiro and Elvira Pérez de Traba.
