• Background Information: 252 Diego de la Serna came to Santa Fe before 1626 as an aide to Governor Sotelo. He stayed in New Mexico, engaging several times in leading soldier-escorts to and from Mexico City. As a captain he was involved in the intrigues of the times, and barely escaped execution for sedition under Governor Pacheco in 1643.
