Louis I, "the Fair," married, as his second wife, Judith of Bavaria, daughter of Welf I, Duke of Bavaria and the were the parents of Gisèle who married Eberhard, Margrave of Friuli. 160

• Web Reference: Charles Cawley's Medieval Lands Welf was the son of Rothard Graf and the husband of Heilwig. "The Annalista Saxo names "de principibus Bawarorum qui fuit binomius, name et Eticho et Welfus dicebatur" who was father of Empress Judith [Annalista Saxo 1126]. From the area of Metz, he moved to Bavaria. Graf in Swabia. Thegan's Vita Hludowici Imperatoris names "filiam Hwelfi ducis sui, qui erat de nobilissima progenie Bawariorum…Iudith…ex parte matris…Eigilwi nobilissimi generic Saxonici" as second wife of Emperor Ludwig [Thegani Vita Hludowici Imperatoris 26, MGH SS II, p. 596]. She was installed as Abbess of Chelles, near Paris [Folz, R. 'Tradition hagiographique et culte de sainte Bathilde, reine des Francs', Comptes rendus des séances de l'Académie des inscriptions et Belles-Lettres, Vol. 119, no. 3 (1975) ]" after he daughter, Judith married in 819.
Welf married Heilwig. (Heilwig died after 17 Mar 833.)
